The Atlantia is all that remains of humanity: a former fleet frigate turned prison-ship now hunted by a terrifying force and crewed by an alliance of murderous convicts, exhausted soldiers and terrified civilians determined to confront the technological horror that has consumed mankind.

Pursuing a Veng’en cruiser toward home, the Atlantia enters Chiron, an uncharted frontier system orbiting a dying star. Seeking supplies, the crew deploy to the small world of Chiron IV, hoping to replenish their dwindling stocks before continuing their journey.

But Chiron IV harbours unseen dangers – a flotilla of corsairs, privateers and escaped convicts amassing a fleet of their own. Caught between the unruly brigands on Chiron IV and the forces of the Legion beyond the system, and with many crew taken hostage on the surface, Captain Idris Sansin must thwart the pirates and defend the Atlantia.

With a crew tired of conflict, violence and drug-abuse afflicting the civilians and the pirate’s plan to flee the cosmos tempting even the strongest minds to reconsider their future with the Atlantia, the captain finds himself facing the greatest crisis of his command – the break-up of what little remains of humanity…
