La représentation des oiseaux dans la seconde moitié du XVIe siècle à travers le Blason des Oyseaux de Guillaume Guéroult et la Description Philosophale [...] des Oyseaux

In 1550 an illustrated collection of poetry entitled the Blason des Oyseaux was published in Lyon, depicting sixty birds, each of the poems ending with a morale. As soon as 1554 in Paris, the Description Philosophale [...] des Oyseaux reuses the same form in a more didactic style. The illustrations of the first collection were reused to illustrate the poems of the second one and we find editions of this hybrid book in Lyon, Paris and Rouen until 1641. During the same period, the first ornithologic books intend to rationalize the knowledges about birds and give realistic representations liberated from the medieval symbolic. This work offers to analyze the pictorial and mental representations of the birds in the sixteenth century through these two collections of poetry.
